How Much Does a Squarespace Website Cost in the UK? (2026)
If you're a female founder thinking about Squarespace, you've probably seen the monthly price and wondered what the catch is.
There isn't really a catch. But the plan is only part of the cost. The bigger question is how your site gets built, and who builds it.
Here's the honest breakdown.
The Squarespace plan
Squarespace has four plans. Prices below are per month, paid annually:
Basic £12 per month (paid yearly) / £16 per month (paid monthly). Great for a basic site that links out to your booking system
Core £17 per month (paid yearly) / £24 per month (paid monthly). Great for taking payments, selling on your site or if you use any CSS code in your design. This plan also means you can access marketing tools such as the announcement bar and website pop up.
Plus £29 per month (paid yearly) / £36 per month (paid monthly). Great if you’re selling a lot of digital products
Advanced £79 per month (paid yearly) / £89 per month (paid monthly). Busy online shops that need all the extra selling tools and lower fees.
Most businesses need Basic or Core. If your offerings / classes / sessions are booked through a separate system, Basic is plenty. If you want people to pay on your site or you want the extra marketing tools or are using CSS, go for Core.
Paying yearly works out cheaper, and it comes with a free domain for the first year.
The extras
A few things aren't in the plan price:
Your domain after year one. It renews every year, usually around £15 to £20.
A business email address. This comes through Google Workspace, paid per person, per month.
Booking software. Squarespace's own booking tool, Acuity, is a separate subscription. Many teachers already use something else, and that's fine.
Email marketing. Squarespace charges separately for this, or you can use a tool you already have.
Then there's the build
This is where the real difference in cost sits. You've got three routes.
1. Build it yourself from scratch. Just the plan cost, so around £150 to £200 in year one. The hidden cost is your time. Evenings lost to moving boxes around, wondering why it doesn't look like the websites you admire. Plenty of people do it. Plenty of people end up with a site they quietly hope nobody visits.
2. Use a designer-made template. The plan, plus a one-off template cost. My Squarespace templates for female founders are £350. 3. Hire a designer. The plan, plus a custom design fee. For a brand and website built only for you, UK prices vary a lot. Mine start at £3500. You get a site that's built around your business, and you don't lift a finger on the design.
So which is right for you?
Ask yourself two questions.
How much is your time worth? If you'd spend three weekends building a site from scratch, a template often pays for itself in time alone.
How far along is your business? If you're just starting out, a template gets you looking professional without a big spend. If you're established and your site is holding you back, custom is usually worth it.
Whichever you choose, the goal is the same. A site you actually want to send people to.

Is there a free Squarespace plan? No. There's a free 14-day trial, then you choose a paid plan.
Can I pay monthly? Yes, but it costs more than paying yearly.
Does Squarespace take a cut of my sales? On Basic, yes, a small percentage. On Core and above, not on physical products. Digital products carry a fee on every plan except Advanced.
